What to
do?
Be a volcanologist and take a drive from Daylesford and
Hepburn Springs, stop at the Chocolate Mill for a treat
before walking the rim of the breached cone of the extinct
volcano of Mount Franklin. From
there, enjoy the 360 degree view of the volcanic cones
emerging out of the distant blue volcanic plains of
Central Victoria.
Look north to Mount Tarrengower
and Mount Alexander. The cleared land is rich volcanic
farmland. The forests and woodlands are bony lands,
markers for the beautiful Shiraz grape country and vineyards
of central Victoria. |

From the Chocolate Mill, drive north ten kilometres along the Midland
Highway, an ancient Aboriginal trading route, to Guildford Vineyard
& Cellar, stop, revive and refresh yourself with the fine taste
of good wine.. Guildford Vineyard
& Cellar is located on the edge of the Castlemaine Diggings National
Park in the Upper Loddon River valley of Central Victoria.
These dry inland slopes of the Great Dividing Range are home to the
prolific winter flowering Box and Ironbark forests and woodlands,
that are a magnet for over 200 species of birds, small bats, butterflies
and wild animals. It is kangaroo country.
